Erik & Rob
Couple Indoor Photoshoot | Albany, NY | Upstate New York

A coming of age Love Story that felt like it was captured right out of a film!
These photos were taken on probably the coldest day of the year. Erik and Rob arrived at their portrait session on time and full of energy. Speaking of energy, both of them are highly motivated and love facing any challenge head on. In Erik’s free time, he is an adult figure skater who excels at jumping and spinning. Rob is a camera-trained meteorologist for the local news, and together they create such a strong aura that is both endearing and infectious. Did I mention they are both over six feet tall? Erik even joked about teaching Rob to skate so they can do pairs together. Imagine them throwing each other into the air!
I think one of my favorite parts about photographing couples is seeing how they interact with each other in certain poses. There’s always a moment when the one holding the other might squeeze them tight or really dig their nose into their face while nuzzling, and I find that it can tell a lot about their love.
Couple sessions always have those few awkward but completely normal moments at the beginning when you’re just getting into the rhythm of things, but eventually there comes a part of the shoot where I get to see the couple fully in their zone. Whether it’s a silent moment shared when they are forehead to forehead, or a glance held just a little longer than instructed, it tells me the couple is completely comfortable with each other. No amount of posing can teach that kind of natural connection, and Erik and Rob certainly had it.
I give them both so much credit for how they did during this photography session. Normally, I try to shoot in locations where the couple can easily interact with their surroundings or have many options to choose from, but because of the horrific weather and scheduling, we were limited in our location choices. However, that did not stop these two from being completely themselves in front of the camera. I think a lot of that was helped by the fact that both of them have some type of performance background, which definitely showed here!
I think my favorite part about Erik and Rob was how effortless it was for them to create such a happy moment in front of the camera. Normally, my style leans more relaxed and soft, but they definitely inspired me to try a more candid, almost coming-of-age style. Honestly, I think part of that was helped by their styling, with Erik in all black and Rob in light neutral shades with a splash of color. It’s such a timeless combination that at some points it felt like I was watching a love story come to life. As a photographer, I think that’s one of our biggest goals for every photoshoot, right? To truly capture the story unfolding in front of us.
Thank you, Erik and Rob, for trusting me with your story. I know both of you will have so much success coming up this year! I also can’t wait to see your debut pairs performance in skating haha.
